Finally, a few (well, a lot of) words about Facebook. We know things have been difficult on Facebook with the group of ladies who seem to have nothing but time to report folks who share feedlot and kill pen horses. While it is a shame that they feel the need to do this, they feel fully justified and seem to believe they are doing a good thing. We do understand all of the concerns that seem to be spurring them but, unfortunately, they have elected to paint ALL lots, pens, and their supporters with the same broad brush and that means everyone has been caught in the cross fire. We want to be crystal clear on Tar Heel Feedlot's position on things and our position has been the same since Day One (those of you who have been around since Day One already know this) 1) "Mass Bailing" is NEVER a good thing and not something we have ever allowed to go on at Tar Heel. Nothing good will come from frantically paying bail on horses at the last minute who have no home to go to and then tossing them at the first person who puts their hand in the air. We don't allow this, have never allowed this, and fully agree this is a practice that needs to go away. 2) If you can't afford a horse and need one fully fundraised in order to take it, you likely don't need the horse and are truly NOT equipped to own one. Yes that sounds harsh but that is the reality. It is why we have always had a rule in place about home offers paying a large portion (greater than 50%) of a horse's price and NOT just fully fundraising to give them away. Have we fully fundraised for horses to go to 501c3 rescues or private individuals? Yes, very sparingly in the case of individuals and those cases have always been for hard to place horses with individuals that were known to us here or long-time page members. Approved 501c3 Organizations have always been allowed to fundraise but here again, we don't just say "Oh, you're a 501 so no problem" We have always asked for participation from the 501 and if it is an organization that has valid concerns raised, we have no trouble putting a stop to it. In other words, we have rules in place for good reason and we GREATLY resent being lumped in with any organizations who don't! Every used car lot isn't the same, nor is every feedlot! 3) "Those horses are just going to another auction" A commonly echoed statement among those opposing kill pens. We can only speak for our business but here, we are pretty crystal clear about what horses are slated to ship and what horses are in fact auction bound. While the naysayers may yammer on, not one of them will ever be able to produce proof of a Tar Heel horse marked "shipped" EVER surfacing at an auction.....because that has NEVER happened and you can't produce proof of fiction! We are very candid and seriously resent those who imply otherwise! 4) We want to very sincerely apologize to all of our Facebook page supporters for what you have had to endure in your efforts to support these horses. We know you have suffered a barrage of insults from those with opposing views and that many of you have found yourself in "Facebook Jail" at some point for sharing horses. It shouldn't be happening but it is.
Enough about the current Facebook nonsense - onward and upward! We are getting better at navigating the website and slowly trying to get a grip on the use of MeWe. If you haven't joined MeWe yet, check it out! It is a new social network and they are "animal friendly" so many folks are migrating over. As always, we are available for any questions by Facebook Messenger, email to tarheelfeedlot@gmail.com or by call/text to 336-564-7650! Please remember that it is auction weekend here so we are a little overextended but we WILL get back with you as soon as we can! For those of you who haven't attended the auction here, by all means check it out! You can come down in person and join us or you can join our live webcast and even bid online if you like at carolinahorseco.hibid.com
Sadly what most of the supporters of the Haters don't realize is that these Haters consist of horse racing people, sport/show horse owners, many horse/dog breeders, 'users' (ranchers and the likes), horse dealers, and similar. When you look into it and look at statistics: 70% of the 36,000 Thoroughbred foals bred every year end up in slaughter. That's roughly 25,000. Most are under 5-6 years old. Many have raced just days before. 2/3 of the roughly 120,000 horses slaughtered every year are said to be Quarter Horses. These horses were sold to killbuyers and/or in auctions by breeders and owners! If you look at the group listed above you will find that there are no 'noble hearts' involved. The group above represents the…
